To My Younger Brethren

by Handley Moule

Summary

To My Younger Brethren (1892) was written by Bishop Handley Carr Glyn Moule. The author’s stated purpose of this book is to address ministers (and others involved in church work) to not sacrifice their spiritual journey and relationship with God to fulfill church obligations. Moule begins with the personal prayer and meditation of a pastor. He refers to this aspect as a “secret walk with God”. Personal devotions and study of the scriptures are the focus of Chapter III, “Secret Study of the Holy Scriptures.” Moule has three chapters on relationships with others. These chapters contain encouragement and warnings of the pitfalls particular to being a pastor. After developing the personal side of being a pastor, Moule finishes the book with insights on being a minister under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and preaching the “attractiveness” of the Gospel.
