Biography

Bishop Charles Gore was an Anglican apologist and theologian. Born in England in 1853 his studies took him to Oxford. His writings and preaching brought him quite a bit of notoriety. He served as principal of the Pusey House. Some of his theological positions stirred up controversy. He accepted “Higher Criticism” of the Old Testament and Kenotic Theory of the Incarnation of Christ. While defending those ideas, Gore also defended the Anglican Church as the extension of the New Testament church. Gore left behind a large body of written works, including Roman Catholic Claims, The Ministry of the Catholic Church, and Light of the World (Lux Mundi): A Series of Studies in the Religion of the Incarnation. Gore died on January 17, 1932.
