Thomas Charles Edwards was born in Wales in 1837. He attended the college his father had founded, Bala Theological College. He also studied at Oxford. He became a popular and respected preacher as he pastored several churches in Wales. In 1872, he became the principal of Aberystwyth University. Nearly twenty years later, he would leave Aberystwyth and become the principal of his father's college in Bala. He was entrusted the role of Moderator for the 1887 assembly of the Presbyterian Church. Even in poor health due to a stroke, he would continue to work until he died in 1900.
