Somewhat of a poet Laurette, Arthur Cleveland Coxe wrote and published many poems while in leadership positions of several Episcopal churches over three decades. Born in New Jersey in 1818, he continued the family tradition of church ministry. Coxe completed his education in New York. While in college Coxe wrote several poems such as The Progress of Ambition and Advent, a Mystery. In 1840 he published several poems for use in worship. These were published as Christian Ballads. Coxe did not want the English Bible revised and wrote in defense of keeping the English Bible as the status quo. Serval theological publications are attributed to Coxe including The Criterion (1866) and The Institutes of Christian History (1887). He died on July 20, 1896. His gravesite is in Geneva, New York.
