Dexter, Henry Martyn, an eminent Congregational
divine and editor of the Congregationalist,
of Boston, was born at Plymouth,
Mass., August 13, 1821; graduated at Yale
College in 1840, and at Andover Theological
Seminary in 1844; was pastor in Manchester,
N. H., and in Boston; resigned his
pastoral charge in 1867 to become editor
of the Congregationalist and Recorder. He
is the author of a large number of published
volumes. He died November 13,
1890. His only hymn in this collection is
a translation of the primitive hymn of
Clement of Alexandria:
