Dessler, Wolfgang Christopher, was born at
Nuremberg February 11, 1660. His father
was a jeweler, and wished his son to follow
the same trade. But the son was devoted
to study, and at length entered the University
of Altdorf as a student of divinity.
On account of ill health, he was obliged to
give up his course; but he continued his
literary work as he was able. He was
head master of a school at Nuremberg
some fifteen years. Dessler was the author
of fifty-six hymns, an accurate scholar
and a devout Christian. He died March 11, 1722.
