Biography

Henry George Liddell was born in England in 1811. Ordained in the Church of England, Liddell was appointed to be Prince Albert’s personal chaplain. Liddell would also work as a school’s headmaster and church’s dean. As a lexicographer, he was one of the editors of the Greek-English Lexicon (1843). Liddell published his book, History of Ancient Rome, in 1855. Here’s a fun fact: Liddell’s daughter, Alice, was the inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. Liddell died just shy of his 88th birthday in 1898.
