Biography

Perhaps you are familiar with the “Each One Teach One” phrase. That concept is part of the Laubach teaching method developed by Frank Charles Laubach. Born in 1884, Laubach earned three degrees before becoming a missionary in the Philippines. Besides mission work among the Muslim populations of the Philippines, Laubach was a teacher, fund-raiser, and administrator. It was here that he developed the Laubach method of teaching literacy. His literacy materials and methods were adopted by people in over 100 countries and taught over 300 languages. Laubach wrote several books including How to Teach One and Win One for Christ, Forty Years with the Silent Billion, Teaching the World to Read, and Frank Laubach’s Prayer Diary. In all, Laubach wrote 56 books. Laubach died in 1970 but his life and his work had such an impact on the world that in 1984 he was included in the USPO stamp series on Great Americans.
