Biography

Kenneth Escott Kirk was born in England in 1886. He was the son of a Methodist pastor. Upon graduating from St. John’s College, he worked with the Student Christian Movement, an outreach to students from India. He began the necessary studies to become an Anglican priest. In 1912 he became an ordained deacon. WWI interrupted his studies. Kirk spent four years as a chaplain in the British army. Following the war, he continued his studies and began writing. Some Principles of Moral Theology was his first book. More than a dozen other books followed this. He served as a Professor of Moral and Pastoral Theology and the Bishop of Oxford. He and his wife raised five children. At the age of 68, Kirk died on June 8, 1954.
