The names of these Dardanian peasants are Gothic, and almost English: Justinian is a translation of uprauda, (upright); his father Sabatius (in Graeco-barbarous language stipes) was styled in his village Istock, (Stock); his mother Bigleniza was softened into Vigilantia.
