'General Observations on the Fall of the Roman Empire In The West' — Gibbon's "Decline & Fall"

Sallust heard the generous professions of P. Scipio and Q. Maximus (de Bell. Jugurthin. c.4.); yet these noble brothers were dead many years before the birth of Sallust. But the Latin historian had read, and most probably transcribes, Polybius, their contemporary and friend.
