A similar expedient was proposed to the leaders of the ten thousand, and wisely rejected. Xenophon, Anabasis, 1. iii. [c. v. 9-11] p. 255, 256, 257. It appears from our modern travellers that rafts floating on bladders perform the trade and navigation of the Tigris.
