Lectio Divina Prayer method

Lectio Divina is Latin for divine reading, spiritual reading, or "holy reading," and represents a method of prayer and scriptural reading intended to engender communion with the Triune God and to increase in the knowledge of God's Word. It is a way of praying with Scripture that calls one to study, ponder, listen and, finally, pray from God's Word.

Method:

Lectio is typically practiced daily for one continuous hour. A selection from the Holy Scriptures is chosen ahead of time, often as a daily progression through a particular book of the Bible.

Comments on the Litanies and Meditations (read first)

These are for your personal meditations. The meditations/litanies are locked to maintain their solitude, so if you wish to comment about any of the meditations/litanies please do so here.

Concerning the choice of Bible version for the scriptural meditations, I selected the KJV not for any superior translation it posses but rather for it's prose and familiarity to the English speaking community.

If you have any uncopyrighted litanies or meditations that you would like to see added please email me about them. A link to an on-line copy would be a big help.

What books do your recommend for a study of prayer?

I am wanting to consider recommended books on the subject of prayer. I am open to all suggestions, thank you for your help.

Absolute Surrender (Milton Grisham)

Absolute Surrender

i sit in your presence, O Lord, awaiting your will,
Until you move me, i remain stone still.

How can i surrender that which is forever yours,
How can i give love to That which is all love,
How can i give works, when i cannot raise my hand,
i am lower than the lowest sinner could be,
For as nothing, i can repent nothing,
With no voice, i sing no praises,
i cannot seek for That which is everywhere,
i cannot pray to change the Unchangeable,

i am less than a raindrop in your ocean,
i am less than an atom in your universe,
You are All, and i am naught.

The Complaint of Christ

The Complaint of Christ
(author unknown)
You call me Lord, but don't Obey me.
You call me Light, but you don't See me.
You call me Way, but you don't Follow me.
You call me Life, but you don't Desire me.
You call me Wisdom, but you don't Agree with me.
You call me Truth, but you don't Believe me.
You call me All-powerful, but you don't Trust in me.
You call me Just, but you don't Fear me [or Respect me].
You call me Father, but you don't become my Children.
You call me Savior, but you don't want Your Salvation.
