Error in translation of a particular passage in Jerome's writings?

When writing about Tertullian, a phrase in

http://www.ccel.org/book/edit/schaff/npnf203/v.iii.lv

is translated as

was the son of a proconsul or Centurion

whereas Gerald Bray's book on Tertullian discusses the phrase as 'centurio proconsularis' - dismissing Jerome's claim that Tertullian is the son of a military officer on the grounds that no such rank exists - see also the results of googling for 'centurio proconsularis'.

1) Is there an online version of Jerome that we check

2) Should the CCEL translation be altered to reflect this?

Is Schaff really the editor of Ante-Nicene Fathers?

Using CCEL to do research on Origen, I came across the text of Ante-Nicene Fathers and tried to come up with a citation to include in my paper. The author (and editor) listed on CCEL for ANF is Philip Schaff, but there does not seem to be any evidence for this everywhere I have checked - not least the title pages of the books of the series found on CCEL.

Middle Ages

I've read books and watched movies on Rome, Augustine, and many of the early Christian fathers. At the moment I'm trying to understand the Byzantine Empire and their conflict with the Ottoman Empire, and would like to know some of the important authors that shaped that era.

just started to read Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, any other suggestions?

What's a good ancient/medieval book on heaven and/or the resurrection of the body?

I'm in a small Christian book group that's looking for a book to read on heaven and/or the resurrection of the body. We're a very ecumenical group so we need something that's not too narrowly confined to a single theological tradition. Also, we've tackled some pretty serious books and will be looking for something very substantive. Given both of those criteria, I'm thinking there must be something ancient or medieval we could read. Any suggestions? Thanks!

(I recently posted this in another forum but I see now that this is the forum it belongs in.)

What have you been reading in God's Word

Question:
What have you been reading and study of God's Word? Explain what you have been reading?

pilgrim's progress

This is mainly for a discussion, but concerning Wayne McNamara's statements about the intense individualism of pilgrim's progress....initially i agreed partly because i been goin' thru some conviction about some possibly gender related male self-sufficiency things and and having a real care and concern for the fellowship that has really been different for me feeling this love for the church and God bless everyone and meet every need....again this is different for me being like ..i've got to be accountable for my own actions.....i'm going to stand before the Lord and give an account for myself.

McClintock and Strong's Cyclopedia

I would like to have Mcclintock and Strong's Cyclopedia, Can anyone kindly suggest whether this is available as PDF to download.

Are the novels of Charles Williams (d. 1945) out of copyright? If so you should get them!

Charles Williams was a British writer associated with CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien who produced a number of excellent fantasy novels in the first decades of the 20th century, dying in 1945.

Accessing Patristic texts

Dropping by to look for the letter of Clement to the Corinthians, I was disappointed that it didn't turn up in a search on title. The problem is that it is only present within the text of a larger book. So my request is that the contents of books such as

http://www.ccel.org/ccel/schaff/anf01

ANF01. The Apostolic Fathers with Justin Martyr and Irenaeus

should be held as titles in their own right. I suspect I may be asking a lot....
