Renew! Songs & Hymns for Blended Worship

In the last forty years of the twentieth century, Christian churches have experienced unprecedented worship renewal.

Since the 1960s there have been two main streams of renewal – the liturgical renewal that draws on ancient and historical sources; and contemporary worship renewal that draws from biblical imagery and contemporary sound.

Since 1990 there has been a third and growing movement of worship renewal known as blended worship. This movement brings together the best from traditional and contemporary worship, and blends them together in a new and powerful way.

The new form of worship is ordered by the biblical and historical fourfold pattern of worship: gathering, hearing God’s word, offering thanksgiving (at the table or in prayer and song), and the dismissal.

Renew! Songs and Hymns for Blended Worship has been published to serve and facilitate this new movement of the Spirit and has been organized around the fourfold pattern of worship.
