CCEL CD-Rom Version 4

This CD-Rom contains most of the CCEL archive as of 2001, including about 300 Classic Christian books, the World Wide Study Bible, and the complete works of the Early Church Fathers, organized for viewing in a Web browser. Also included is a full-text search engine that allows you to search for words or phrases in any of the books on the CD-Rom. Complete Contents. This CD-ROM is the result of eight years of programming work and the work of many volunteers scanning, typing, formatting, proofreading, and collecting public-domain resources. All share a common goal: to make important, edifying, classic Christian books and study resources widely available.

The CD-ROM works like the CCEL Web site, using your own Web browser. The main difference is that you don't have to be connected to the Internet or wait for slow downloads. Also included is a full-text search engine that allows you to search for words or phrases in any of the texts on the CD-ROM; you can even perform Boolean and ranked searches.

Help Make Important Christian Books Available Worldwide

The proceeds from the sale of this CD-ROM go toward the further development of the Christian Classics Ethereal Library and its distribution overseas. This is the main source of funding for the CCEL, and it has supported much of the development to date and free or reduced-cost distribution of over 4000 CD-ROMs to pastors and laypersons in developing countries without theological libraries.

Note for overseas users: If you have access to a computer with a CD-ROM drive, and if the cost of purchasing a CD-ROM would be a financial burden, please send an e-mail to request a free or reduced-cost copy. A limited number of these copies will be available, intended for locations such as the former Soviet Union, Africa, India, and the like. More than 5000 have been distributed so far!

Note that some resources that are linked in the World Wide Study Bible (WWSB) are not on the CD-ROM. The WWSB has links all over the Internet, but only links to CCEL resources are included on the CD-ROM. For example, only four of the Bible translations linked in the WWSB are included on the CD-Rom: KJV, ASV, Young's Literal Translation, and the World English Bible.

Compatibility: This CD-Rom is compatible with Microsoft Windows, Macintosh, Linux, and just about any PC with a CD-ROM drive and a Web browser. Use of the search engine requires that Java be installed and running. The CD-ROM works best with Netscape Navigator 6 (or later) and Internet Explorer 5 (or later).
