After retiring, I no longer had a need to carry a laptop computer with me, but I needed something to remind me to take my pills, remind me of appointments and such. I wanted it to be flexible and reliable, and finally settled on a pocket pc, an Ipaq, which I used for several years. It finally wore out and I found that the machine had been bought out by another company, but the reliablity and flexability were no longer there. After wasting several hundred dollars trying to make do with an inferior product and much annoyance trying to get the manufacter to fix the problems, I gave up and bought a Palm OS device, which meets my needs very well.

Something I really missed on the pocket pc was the ability to make my own bible study resources for it. Though there are several good study programs available, the best being Rick Meyers' Pocket E-Sword , there is currently no way to make your own material for the program. Palm Bible+, a GPL bible project does not have this limitation, it being possible and fairly easy to make your own bibles and commentaries for use with the program, I think of it as the OLB for the Palm. There are several web sites on the internet that post many bibles in several languages as well as some of the same public domain vintage commentaries we have in the Olb. You can access the links page on the Palm Bible+ site for a listing of most of these sites. In addition, I am doing versions of some of my own work that I will post here soon.

  • Update: Larry Pierce, the programmer of OLB has announced that he will be doing a port of the Online Bible for both the Palm Operating system and Pocket PC after the Palm OS one, so I will hold off on this until things are more certain as the new versions will use standard OLB files thus requiring no conversion to be used. I will follow this with great intrest as it will facilitate many things that are not now possible.
