Trouble in Marriage

Mike Kirby's picture

1 Corinthians 7:28 says,

But if you do marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. But those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and I want to spare you this.

Allow me to ask 3 questions.

How do you view troubles in your marital relationship?

Is it God's will for you to experience trouble in your relationship?

Has marital trouble been useful in your growth in Christ?

Marriage is one of the deepest subjects in the bible, along with birth. Many examples of good and bad marriages are in the bible. It may will be the deepest subject of all. Marriage is a chisel in the hands of God to form us into the image of Christ. It embodies all the commands of Christ. To love your neighbors as yourself and to love your enemies. To be so close and intimate to someone that you thought was cute and sweet in all that they do, yet now all of those things are in the way of what you want to do in your flesh. One finds out it is not easy to even love your family. How can we love our enemies? I cannot wait to be in new flesh, this marriage thing is difficult. God puts up with a lot from us. But in all this, I do love my wife. God is dealing with her also and I must be patient and submit to His will at all times. It is challenging. All the problems I experience in my marriage are in my flesh. Purge me please, O my God!
