Who died on the Cross?

Hi all,

At our mid week bible study the Pastor said that God (as in the second person of the Trinity) died on the Cross. Instinctively I believed that to be wrong, and so I checked it out, first from the Word and then from trusted sources, I ended up with R.C.Sproul saying that it was impossible for God (the second person of the Trinity) to die, and John Macarthur said that God did die on the cross.I'm hoping that someone could shed some light on the subject.

Thank you

hi joe

firstly God never died on the cross, his son did.i ll love 2 state categoricaly that their is no such thing as three Gods, but rather a God,his son Jesus(our mediator),the holyspirit(our comforter or the active personel)e.g the root of a plant(God),the stem(Jesus),the branches(holyspirit). All re one but not roots.i believe when he said God died on the cross,he was saying that God as christ died on the cross since their are 3 Gods.but truthfuly this confusing to those who are new in the faith.there's only 1 God with 2 personalities.so God didnt died no the cross
