Prosperity Preaching

What is your opinion on prosperity style preaching? Many mainstream Christian preachers have jumped on the bandwagon with the "sew a seed" and reap a fortune from God fad these days. TV Evangelists seem to corner the market with this regard.

Do you believe it is theologically correct in giving more because you want more?

Does this style of preaching tend to be a protestant effort or are there Catholic preachers/teachers involved too?

If you disagree with the above, what do you think the end consequence will be for those involved? Will they suffer eternal damnation for emptying the pockets of vulnerable desperate Christians?

My personal opinion is that Jesus calls me to take up my cross and follow him.

Where your treasure is there will your heart be also...

How we spend our money says volumes about where are hearts really are. For example, tithing is in the Bible yet few Christians tithe, according to 'statistics'... I agree with so many of you that have clearly stated from the word of God that trying to get God to give us things is not right. Yes He does love His children and yes He does provide for us; sometimes we live day by day but, as one of you mentioned, not usually in North America, the land of prosperity. But, it is so true that most of the world does not live in prosperity and the whole doctrine of prosperity is based on greed and materialism and acquiring things, for no eternal purpose. I know what I am talking about because I used to be a devoted follower of the 'prosperity doctrine and the faith movement'. Exposing such teachers for their error is not judging- just read the book of Acts and how they dealt with error. I guess I'm just really encouraged to hear most of you agreeing with Jesus about taking up our cross and seeking first His kingdom, etc. After all, the only thing we can take with us to Heaven is our faith in Jesus Christ, not a single speck of our posessions. For me personally, if you saw our income and our expenses, you'd say we were poor. But, we have learned to live by faith and see God provide more than I ever did when I was giving to get back from God. Now, we truly do live to please the Lord and seek His will first and most of the time He gives us really nice clothes, food, etc. for free without us even asking. We also give a lot to needy Christians in other countries. I'm not anyone special but I've been on the side of the prosperity teaching and I'm thankful the Lord was merciful and patient with me and has brought me this far. We serve an awesome God and by believing teachings that say we will become wealthy, etc. by giving to their ministries, is trusting in man, not God. Remember how Jesus told the rich young man to sell all and give to the poor and he'd have riches in Heaven? What would you do if he told you to do that? How are you helping the poor today? God did not bless our country so we could hoard for ourselves, but so we could share. The church in Acts had 'all things in common and no one was in need.' Who cares what the prosperity teachers are saying- just do what Jesus requires!:-)

I asked Jesus 'how much do you love me?' and He said, 'this much' and He stretched out His hands on the cross and died. Are you living totally surrendered to the Lord Jesus Christ each day?
