Prosperity Preaching

What is your opinion on prosperity style preaching? Many mainstream Christian preachers have jumped on the bandwagon with the "sew a seed" and reap a fortune from God fad these days. TV Evangelists seem to corner the market with this regard.

Do you believe it is theologically correct in giving more because you want more?

Does this style of preaching tend to be a protestant effort or are there Catholic preachers/teachers involved too?

If you disagree with the above, what do you think the end consequence will be for those involved? Will they suffer eternal damnation for emptying the pockets of vulnerable desperate Christians?

My personal opinion is that Jesus calls me to take up my cross and follow him.

God's Prosperity is not our version but his.

I think a good example of the difference between what we see as prosperity and what God means when he says prosperity is in this story:

Pilate said....
Luk 23:16 I will therefore chastise him, and release him.
Luk 23:17 (For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.)

Luk 23:18 And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas:
Luk 23:19 (Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.)
{sedition is in this case leading a resistance movement. That is seeking to "deliver" the Jews from their Roman bondage}

Consider the Analytical literal version:
Luk 23:19 (who had been thrown into prison for a certain insurrection having occurred in the city, and [for] murder).

Luk 23:20 Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them.
Luk 23:21 But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.

{One of the princible reasons the People rejected Jesus was because they expected that the Christ, the Deliverer would deliver them "naturally"}

Luk 23:22 And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go.
Luk 23:23 And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.
Luk 23:24 And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.

Luk 23:25 And he released unto them him that for sedition insurrection and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.

My Conclusion: When we are faced with a situation that we need delivering from. When we seek to be prospered. The NATURAL MAN seeks Physical, natural, Carnal Deliverence; Natural Prosperity.

Jesus is offering to DELIVER us from Spiritual bondage.

Barabbas is offering to deliver us from Physical bondage, Resulting in Natural prosperity.

Which would you choose?

If you were standing there in front of Pilate. Would you cry "Crucify him?"

NO!!!! You say! Well when you are seeking to be delivered why do you yet seek Natural deliverence? Why would you seek to free Barabbas.

Prosperity Preaching seeks to deliver people from Natural bondage and Give God the credit and often not deal with the greater bondage of men's hearts.

3Jn 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
