Channel 7 in Sydney Australia did a tv program 1 week ago on the popularity of hillsong church over the world (1million followers) , controversial since its pastor Brian Houston refused to speak to the media previously. Does wealth and a successful church go hand in hand ? Why is it so popular amongst the younger generation ? Would be great to hear your opinions ...

Respond to Snickerz

If the hillsong church has 1 million following, what's it to you? You follow Jesus.

Jhn 21:22 Jesus said to him, "If I will that he remain till I come, what [is that] to you? You follow Me."

I don't know about this hillsong church Pastor, but I do know what the Bible expects of me as a follower of Christ. I am to pray for my enemies and love my fellow believers and forgives as many as one comes to me for forgiveness. As a follower of Christ, that is what expected of you not criticism or judgment.

Also, the Bible is not for unbelievers; it is a guide for believers, for us so we can know our Lord more intimately and walk a life worthy of our calling. We are to take it very seriously and not wave it around unbelievers.

Mat 7:6 "Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

Furthermore, if the hillsong church is a group of misguided people, we need to pray and send prayer requests to as many churches as we can so the Holy Spirit can begin to convict hearts and the saving power of God moves. Through our intercession God moves.

Lastly, you talked about preaching the Gospel and I do agree we need to do that. But my question is, does it ever occur to us that the preaching we are to do is to witness with our lives? And that we are commanded to show the world what Christian life is all about, by loving one another? He said that we would be known by our love not by our words. We err by not knowing the Word. Jesus is so serious about this loving one another that it is repeated so many times in the Bible.

Jhn 13:34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

Jhn 15:12 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.

Jhn 15:17 These things I command you, that you love one another.

Rom 13:8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.

1Th 4:9 But concerning brotherly love you have no need that I should write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another;

1Pe 1:22 Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart,

1Jo 3:11 For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another,

1Jo 3:23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.

1Jo 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.

1Jo 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

1Jo 4:12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us.

2Jo 1:5 And now I plead with you, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment to you, but that which we have had from the beginning: that we love one another.

Words are empty without the witness of our lives. Let our words be few. It's better that we let our lives do the preaching than our mouths. Our hearts are not always right with God, but if our hearts are right with God, out of our mouths will flow the abundant of what is in our hearts. The Holy Spirit will be so powerful in our lives that we will utter the right Word at the right time. Those Words will show that God so love the world that He gave His only begotten Son.
