In this Chapter 7 of Nehemiah we will find Hananiah(Hanani), Nehemiah's brother put in charge of Jerusalem. Nehemiah assembles The People and discovers a genealogical record. We will find it was a record of Genealogical from the Dedication of The Altar in Ezra 2:1-70, Which reflects the initial return from Babylon by The Jews. And lastly a short reading of The Torah Scrolls in the last verse 72b.

This Genealogy is from The Book of Ezra and The Altar Dedication from Ezra 3:1 and indicates The Torah of Moses is to be the reading. This section of Torah was discovered during The Reign of Josiah, King of Judah, from The Book, II Kings 22-23.

Verse 1-4 The Appointments
Verse 5-72a The Genealogical Register From Ezra is read by Nehemiah
Verse 72b A short reading from Torah, II Kings 23:1-3(Ezra 3:1)

Nehemiah 7:1-2,The Levites Are Appointed to their Positions

We now are starting a new chapter in Nehemiah. The Walls are now finished around Jerusalem. The Doors are now hung at each Entrance Gate which took sever more months after The Walls were completed. Nehemiah is now appointing The Levites to their positions at The Temple according to Jewish Scholar, Rashi.

The Levites had also been working on The Rebuilding of The Walls of Jerusalem, as all others were on this Very Important Work. Nehemiah was now assigning them back to their Calling in life.

According to Malbum, The Temple was completed 14 years before The Wall was finished.

The Gatekeepers were singers and as well they were also Levites too. They stood guard duty around The Temple at The Gates of Entry into The Courtyard and before the Sanctuary. They also did various communal tasks within The City. They were also responsible for The Treasury of The Temple and other similar offices within The Temple.

Let's read the first two verses of Nehemiah 7,

V1 Then it was, when the wall was built and I had hung the doors, when the gatekeepers, the singers, and the Levites had been appointed,
V2 that I gave the charge of Jerusalem to my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the leader of the citadel, for he [was] a faithful man and feared G-d more than many.

The second verse has a hiccup with the name, Hanani(Hananiah) because it is used in two versions of that mans name and the verb is in the singular, one person known by two different but similar names. Information from The Jewish Study Bible, Tanakh.

Hanani is the brother of Nehemiah, who also was the one who gave Nehemiah the information about The Gates of Jerusalem being burned with fire when he was the King's Cup bearer in The Fortress of Shushan.

According to Jewish Scholar, Malbim, Hananiah, a was man of Truth and G-d fearing more than most people. Hananiah's fear of G-d outweighed his fear of The Lords who supported Tobiah!
