"Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life." John 5.39-40
I sign off with this verse in every post because it changed the way I approached EVERYTHING. Jesus, proclaiming himself to a froward generation, tells them to search the scriptures, but not because the scriptures ARE the key to eternal life, but because JESUS has eternal life...
When I realized that the scriptures were always intended to point us to God, and not to be a substitute for God or the final authority on God, I lost a lot of my fear of being wrong, my fear of accepting or believing the wrong thing or failing to "know" God through the "correct" interpretation of scripture. I became a Christian not just in my head, but in my heart, because I realized GOD is approachable through GOD, and the scriptures point to that place of entry.
