Jesus was the perfect sacrifice, and satisfied the justice that the old law was crying for. Through His death we have a new relationship with the Father, one not of criminal and judge, but of sons and Father.

Technially, Jesus did not save us, it is more precise to say He made our salvation possible. If He had saved us, we would all be saved, and we know not all are saved. Instead He made the free gift of salvation available to all and taught us how to properly accept it through a living faith.
