What's a good ancient/medieval book on heaven and/or the resurrection of the body?

I'm in a small Christian book group that's looking for a book to read on heaven and/or the resurrection of the body. We're a very ecumenical group so we need something that's not too narrowly confined to a single theological tradition. Also, we've tackled some pretty serious books and will be looking for something very substantive. Given both of those criteria, I'm thinking there must be something ancient or medieval we could read. Any suggestions? Thanks!

The Flowing Light of the Godhead

Hi Greg,

I'm new here, so I don't know if this book is already familiar in the ccel forums.

The Flowing Light of the Godhead, Mechthild of Magdeburg 1210 – c. 1285/1291) was a medieval mystic, a Beguine, and a Benedictine nun, whose book Das fließende Licht der Gottheit (The Flowing Light of the Godhead described her visions of God. She was never canonized by the Roman Catholic Church.

I'm not sure if her writings completely suit your bookclub criteria about heaven/resurrection of the body, but there may be sections that contain what you've been looking for.

I found the free book preview on google books just 2 days ago. Unfortunately, there are so many pages omitted in the free preview that I now feel such longing to read all the omitted pages and to let it all soak into me.

Here's the link, to the book preview.
