The Book of Ezra Chapter 4, Opposition by The Elamites

Most of this Chapter will cover the opposition who see this new threat of power which The Jews seem to have as they work on the restoration of The Temple with Cyrus,Xerxes and Artaxerxes. Work comes to a stop until the Second year of reign of Darius, King of Persia.

Names like Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabbl, Rehum, Shimshai, The Elamites, those whom Osnappaar deported to Sumaria are now causing a slow down in Jerusalem with the restoration of The Temple.

Ezra 4:22-24, The End of the Aramaic Messaging...

Now we will be reading the last of the Aramaic Text inserted into Ezra 4,

22 Take heed now that you do not fail to do this. Why should damage increase to the hurt of the kings?
23 Now when the copy of King Artaxerxes' letter [was] read before Rehum, Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem against the Jews, and by force of arms made them cease.
24 Thus the work of the house of G-d which [is] at Jerusalem ceased, and it was discontinued until the second
year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.

According to the Rabbinic tradition, both Darius I and Artaxerxes are identified with Cyrus. Therefore, they regard Cyrus as the one retracting the permission to the Jews. Even though Cyrus has been dead for years, the Rabbinic tradition still puts the blame on him. Be that as what is understood by the Rabbis' here.

Now for a different approach to this inserted Aramaic. I see the New King Artaxerxes asserting himself for the salt eating of the fellow expelled Elamites who have dined with The King at The Palace in Shushan and were from Samaria(Shomron in Hebrew).

The Aramaic Letter to The King and his reply, is tied to a group of people, The Elamites, who see The Jews as their enemy. This is the hate and discontent that Satan causes in the hearts of man and it can be found in every culture and every Nation on Earth.

Not all of The Elamite People are of this position that the leadership are involved with. It's the leadership, Ruhum and Shimshai his scribe who seem to be leading this group of adversaries of Judah and Benjamin.

Remember Some of The Elamite, were also involved with worship and participation during the seventh month and Sukkot, The Festival of Booths, Ezra 3.

Let me now insert The Book of Esther here inside our study of Ezra. There is also this same devision going on among the leadership within The Palace in Shushan and over the same group of people, The Jews and their Opposition. The leadership of The Opposition is a one man crew, named Haman!

Now without going into great detail, I would like to point out to most of us who are not Jewish, that this problem we see in Ezra is an on going thing within The Jewish Diaspora and in most areas of The World.

This is why I pointed out The Book of Esther. This book contains another story about this same struggle with a man who is being used as Satan's Tool to cause destruction to the People of G-d, The Jews.

So think a little on this matter and tomorrow we will start a new chapter, a new story line and a New Persian King, Darius II.
