The Book of Ezra Chapter 4, Opposition by The Elamites

beemanlee's picture

Most of this Chapter will cover the opposition who see this new threat of power which The Jews seem to have as they work on the restoration of The Temple with Cyrus,Xerxes and Artaxerxes. Work comes to a stop until the Second year of reign of Darius, King of Persia.

Names like Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabbl, Rehum, Shimshai, The Elamites, those whom Osnappaar deported to Sumaria are now causing a slow down in Jerusalem with the restoration of The Temple.

This is not a new issue...

Djacque and Class,

Your first question, ...What do we need in order to be borne again and walk obediently with G-d?...

This is key to all scripture and all works inspired by G-d.

You question is from a Christian understanding of what Jesus talked about and referred to as, ...borne again... and involves a spiritual/soul relationship with G-d.

This issue of course does not involve the doing by us up front, but it involves a inner understanding or inclining our ear toward G-d. This involves all what is me, and by giving that inner portion of me to G-d. I call it our "hearts intent". When we turn this part of me over to G-d in repentance, we are saying to G-d, not my way L-rd, but Your Ways.

This is "change" and it is connected to this same thing which Jesus was referring to as ...borne again... It is changing our direction in life and involves all of what is "me". By giving all of "me" to G-d we are allowing G-d to work in us and through us to influence The World for Him.

Jeremiah spoke out about this heart issue with The People of Judah and Israel before their ultimate destruction and final demise at the hands of both Assyria and finally with Babylon.

The Tribes of Judah and Benjamen both spent 70 years for their part of doing it their way in Babylon. The other 10 Tribes of Jacob were lost in The World for the last 2000 years. Some of them are now coming back to The Land of Beginnings, Israel of today.

Now for your second question you were pondering in your post, ...How do I show affinity for other (professing) believers? ...

This may sound hard to do, with so much polarization going on within The Body of Christ today.

Remember it is man that is doing this division with the help of "The Deceiver of Men", Satan. This is no different than what is going on in Ezra as we read from the text: Devision and Resistance are the two main tools used to slow down "The Work" of G-d's people in restoring "The Temple" and "The Walls of Jerusalem".

So if you are asking me the question, for a correct way to go, I would say you must check it out with G-d first, for only G-d can cause this Great Work to happen in our time.

I will put it this way, when a people who are called by G-d, humble themselves before their Maker, with honesty about their desire. Then it will come to be! Only when we humble ourselves before G-d, will G-d ever do anything for us beyond giving Faith and Grace.

When we are against G-d's ways we are following "the deceiver of man" and G-d will not be apart of that deception!

I do believe it starts with prayer for our leaders, both spiritual and political, and for Divine help and mercy to accomplish this. It is a mighty task for all of us to undertake.

American King James Version, 2 Chronicles 7:14, says this:

If my people, which are called by my name, shall "humble themselves", and "pray", and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will "heal their land".

We all have a part in this point of being one as G-d is ONE.

Lets pray for this to happen with each of us.
