1 Corinthians 3:15 -but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire

For Catholics the answer is Purgatory.

What is the answer for Protestants?

1 Corinthians 3:15
If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

Thanks Dan for trying to

Thanks Dan for trying to communicate honestly all that you have been saying . . . even if I don't agree on some of it . . . if our coversations are to be fruitful, then we must be at least honest in our speech . . . and Hopefully . . . we will be kind too.

Dan said:

"The author of Hebrews lets us in on the secret of God's blessing in this widows life: faith not the accumulation of her merit under your church's control --- leading to direct control of people through the teaching of Purgatory."

jwmcmac comments:

When I read your conclusions sometimes . . . so down on the Church's Authority . . . which Authority clearly comes from CHRIST . . . I wonder . . .

I wonder what GOD will have to tell you when you get to Heaven and you 'see' all the structure of Authority which exists there . . . as I see GOD as the ultimate 'Delegator' of HIS Authority . . . and I see that HE takes more offense when we 'ignore' those whom HE has put in charge than if we had directly ignored 'HIM'. I see it as a sort of an inverse or reciprocal thing.

The smaller the authority, the more offense GOD takes at our ignoring of same.

And Dan . . . you seem so offended by the Authority that GOD has given to those in the Church . . . that I fear for you . . . and am saddened by you.

"All Authority comes from above . . . ultimately . . . from the Heavenly FATHER. Please, don't take such offense at it.

This chain of Authority . . . is GOD's Blessing and HIS Humility.

GOD lifts up and GOD tears down.

GOD appoints to Authority and GOD deposes those in Authority . . . as HE Wills.

GOD is in charge of HIS Church the way HE wants it to be . . . not the way 'we' want it, individually or collectively, to be.

The Church has charge over us, the flock . . . we individually do not have that gift of Authority . . . we are the sheep . . . and there are those in Authority over us . . . for our own good . . . even if there are some wolves as well.

But you see only wolves in the Church . . . and you seem to see yourself as the only pastor of your own soul . . . though you claim this is CHRIST over you by your self-interpretation of the Book . . . don't you see the problem there? If not, who can help you?

First we must acknowledge our need before we can begin to be helped.

Even with a good explanation . . . you still refuse to give the Church any credit as an institution.

I do not fathom your difficulty . . . but I do know that your difficulty is not of GOD . . . but is all your own.

Not saying that you are not close to GOD . . . just that you are wrong in your assessment of the Church and those of Authority in Her.

Saint Luke Chapter 1:

"46 And Mary said: My soul doth magnify the Lord.

47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

48 Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid; for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

49 Because he that is mighty, hath done great things to me; and holy is his name.

50 And his mercy is from generation unto generations, to them that fear him."

Comments from the Douay:

48 "Shall call me blessed"... These words are a prediction of that honour which the church in all ages should pay to the Blessed Virgin. Let Protestants examine whether they are any way concerned in this prophecy.

Continuing from the Douay:

51 He hath shewed might in his arm: he hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.

52 He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble.
53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.

54 He hath received Israel his servant, being mindful of his mercy:

55 As he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed for ever."

Keep conversing, Dan.

GOD Bless us all.
