What is Sin?

I've heard so many competing definitions, and I'd really like to have a solid answer--what is sin?

Can Christians live above it?
Are Christians forgiven when they do it?
Do Christians lose salvation when they commit it?

If you've a good answer, please share it.

Off Topic...Praying for the Dead (Baptized for the Dead)

Just a comment about praying for the dead.

This is just a comment for me to think this through.

I would just think that when those mentioned by Paul who are being baptized in the Holy Spirit for the dead, they would probably be deep in prayer and filled with faith of the Lord Jesus as Savior during their baptism for the dead.

1 Corinthians 15:29

29 Otherwise, what will those do who are baptized for the
dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why then are they baptized for them?

Also, there is also a verse somewhere that mentions "Woe to those who nobody weeps for " refering to after death.

So I personally believe that prayer, penance, weeping, grieving, sorrow for the dead, I believe the Lord God hears the aching love prayers in our soul for our loved ones souls.
