Unfortunately, I have seen some people simply seize 2 Peter 1.20 , 1 John 2.27, or John 14.26, or other verses like them, and simply use them to say, "This Spirit showed me this, and it is up to you to believe it or not." It's hard to argue with that, and usually just best not to :). What I like to take from 2 Peter 1.20 is that no scripture is mysterious and impenetreable, but are common property, discuss-able, and understandable. That's what the writer seems to be saying, anyway.
