The Empire Strikes Back (Revelation 13)

Some good stuff in here--the Beast, his mark, the False Prophet. This should be an interesting chapter.

a quick answer

Q: Is there such a thing as the second coming in your opinion, or did it occur in 70 AD? What about a future resurrection?

A: While I read Revelation as not speaking primarily about the second coming of Jesus Christ, I do believe that other books of the Bible speak plainly about a second coming, and that the book of Reveation does shed some light and give perspective regarding that Second Coming. The same holds true of the resurrection--while I think that the general Christian community overlooks or forgets the political, spiritual, and symbolic aspects of the resurrection, there is clearly mention of a Resurrection event coming some time after the cross.

As to the question of 70 AD--I don't think Revelation speaks directly about 70 AD, though it may shed light on the destruction of Jerusalem at the hands of the Beast; in nutshell, it seems to me that John the Revelator is directly talking about the historical judgment that first fell on Israel at the hands of Babylon/Rome, and that he puts the cross in parallel with that destruction/redemption, and puts the situation of the Church in parallel with both Israel and the cross; thus, the destruction--to make things complicatied--of 70 AD represents that third parallel, which we today can also appreciate as our own story.

There--couple of quick answers. :)

Search the scriptures--for in them ye think ye have eternal life:
They are they which testify of me--and ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
(John 5.39-40)
