This vision in Rev. 13: is prophetic of the growth and dominance of the world powers in the last days. In contemporary language we use the term government but for biblical writers like Daniel and John the word kingdom is used. Heads and horns speak of authority and power in biblical language. The fact that John's imagery is very similar to Daniel's indicates that they are talking about the same thing: one world government. As the world's economic markets converge there will necessarily be the establishment of a central government like the Roman empire to manage and control the systems. This is exactly the direction that the modern nation-states are headed and it is only a matter of time before independent sovereign nations are absorbed into organizations like the European Union. These developments will provide for the opportunity for someone like the little horn in Daniel to gain control and set up a world wide political/religious order that dominates all the peoples of the earth. Big government, like we have in America now, is an unruly, corrupt and dictatorial beast like the dragon that will oppress and ultimately destroy all that is good and just in our society. Fortunately, these kingdoms will be replaced with the righteous and peaceful rule of the Lord Jesus Christ. To be forewarned is to be prepared and God has revealed these truths to the Church in order to make her ready for His coming.--Dan.7:18, Am. 3:7
