Why is the Bible True and other Scriptures False?

dgshaw's picture

This has been a question that has plagued me for a long time, especially given my extensive study of other scriptures in addition to our own and my thorough study of historical/critical reflection on the Bible.

It seems to me either:

A. we must ACCEPT the premise "our scripture is true, theirs are not" on FAITH alone
B. we must DEMONSTRATE the premise "our scripture is true, theirs are not" RATIONALLY.

I would relish hearing a sound and sane discussion on this issue.

Thank you.

There aren't any others if you accept those that have been canonized from long ago. The catholics have the apochrypha which aren't accepted by many protestants.

I'm a mormon, so I accept the Book of Mormon and a few others as scripture. Those are accepted by my faith in addition to the bible. It can be even wider if there are familial scripture, personal revelation and such but that isn't accepted by the corporate church, but can be by an individual.

Perhaps what has been canonized is the more proper question, as well as by what authority.
