Why is the Bible True and other Scriptures False?

dgshaw's picture

This has been a question that has plagued me for a long time, especially given my extensive study of other scriptures in addition to our own and my thorough study of historical/critical reflection on the Bible.

It seems to me either:

A. we must ACCEPT the premise "our scripture is true, theirs are not" on FAITH alone
B. we must DEMONSTRATE the premise "our scripture is true, theirs are not" RATIONALLY.

I would relish hearing a sound and sane discussion on this issue.

Thank you.

What scriptures are you talking about?

I'm very late to this party.

I come from a faith that contains more scriptures than just the bible.

Our scriptures undergo our own process. If a new revelation is received, the Quorum of the 12 Apostles must be unanimous in it's inspiration and text. It must be approved by the body of the priesthood and by the members as the mind, might and will of the Lord.

Consequently our canon is different than other christians.

As to the truthfullness of other scriptures, say, hinduism. Well, I would think that testifying of Jesus Christ would be the big disqualifier. Same with the Islamic and Wiccan texts, etc.

I try and embrace all truth, no matter where it is found.
