This thread is for the discussion of secular/pagan Xmas problems and thoughts. I used Xmas to differentiate this thread form the Christmas thread. To discuss the birth of Jesus please use the Christmas Thread.

re:Can you explain how this is

Can you explain how this is accomplished since the idea of idolatry being linked to Christmas is central to this debate? I mean, if we make reasonable excuses for every idolatrous practices then how will we recognize it as sin or as motivated by sin?

THAT is a loaded question. The assumption behind this question is that we are committing idolatry and excusing it. Therefore, there is no way to answer it.

If I say, we will recognize our practice as sin, then, it is sinful. If I say, we won't recognize our practice as sin, then it remains sinful but unrecognized.

But the fact remains that our practice of celebrating Christmas with a Christmas tree is neither idolatrous nor sinful in any other way.

However, I believe we are at an impasse.

You consider the trimming of a tree an idolatrous practice.

We don't.

I don't think anything that I say will convince you that trimming a tree is not idolatrous. Nor do I believe that you can convince me that it is.

Therefore, I suggest you enjoy what remains of Christmas your way. And I will enjoy it mine.

Merry Christmas!
