THE CLOUD OF UNKNOWING - CHAPTER 31

if it so be that thy foredone special deeds will always press in thy remembrance betwixt thee and thy God, or any new thought or stirring of any sin either, thou shalt stalwartly step above them with a fervent stirring of love, and tread them down under thy feet.

Unconditional Love

Hi Robert-

Yes, God's love is unconditional.. this is true. 'Nothing can separate us from the love of God' - as it says in the bible. This is a tremendous gift.

But I cannot enjoy this love unless I show sorrow for my sins... maybe that is just me. I cannot come before Him in joy unless I repented with tears for my sins. Until I feel that total contrition, I cannot begin to feel His love. So, to me it is not a burying of my sins only... it is a total sorrow for them first. Once I go through that and am calm again... then His love enters me.

It then becomes so intense this love that it can leave me breathless.. no other ways to explain it. It is such an overwhelming joy and peace and then I cry because of the joy - hours can go by and I not notice. What amazes me is that this is only a moment of grace... can anyone possibly imagine what being with Him for eternity would be like?

I know that He would love me with or without my tears of repentance... it is I that need that cleansing and I am grateful for this grace He gives me to do so.

I just cannot understand not doing this first... am I missing something here?
