Praying the Stations of the Cross

Maria Smith's picture

Heavenly Father,

Grant that we who meditate on the Passion and Death of Your Son, Jesus Christ, may imitate in our lives His love and self-giving to You and to others.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

1. JESUS IS CONDEMNED TO DEATH:

God so loved the world that He gave His only Son,...that the world might be saved through Him (Jn 3:16)

Though he was harshly treated, he submitted and opened not His mouth; like a lamb led to the slaughter or a sheep before the shearers, He was silent and opened not His mouth (Is 53:7)

There is no greater love than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends. (Jn 15:13)

Let us pray:
Father in the flesh of Your Son you condemned sin. Grant us the gift of eternal life in the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.

2. JESUS BEARS HIS CROSS

It was our infirmities that He bore, our sufferings that He endured. (Is 53:4)

Whoever wishes to be my follower must deny His very self, take up His cross each day, and follow in my steps (LK 9:23)

Take my yoke upon your shoulders and learn from me...
for may yoke is easy and my burden light. (Mt 11:28)

Let us Pray:
Father, Your Son Jesus humbled himself and became obedient to death. Teach us to glory above all else in the Cross, in which is our salvation. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

3. JESUS FALLS THE FIRST TIME

He has broken my teeth with gravel, pressed my face in the dust; my soul is deprived of peace, I have forgotten what happiness is (Lam 3:16)

The Lord laid upon Him the guilt of us all (Is 53:6)

Look! There is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (Jn 1:29)

Let us Pray:

Father, help us to remain irreproachable in Your sight, so that we can offer Your our body as a holy and living offering. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord.

4. JESUS MEETS HIS MOTHER:

Did you knot know I had to be in my Father's house? (Lk 2:49)

Come, all you who pass by the way, look and see whether there is any suffering like my suffering (Lam 1:12)

You are sad for a time, but I shall see you again; then your hearts will rejoice with a joy no one can take from you. (Jn 16:22)

Let us Pray:

Father, accept the sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Your Son. May they obtain from Your mercy every good for our salvation. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

5. JESUS IS HELPED BY SIMON:

As often as you did it for one of My least brothers, you did it for Me. (mt 25-40)

Help carry one another's burdens; in that way You will fulfill the law of Christ (Gal 6:2)

No slave is greater than His master (Jn 13:16)

Let us Pray:

Father, You have first loved us and You sent Your son to expiate our sins. Grant that we may love one another and bear each other's burdens. We as this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

6. VERONICA WIPES THE FACE OF JESUS:

His look was marred beyond that of man, and his appearance beyond that of mortals. (Is 52:14)

The Son is the reflection of the Gather's glory, the exact representation of the Father's being (Heb 1:3)

Let us Pray:

7. JESUS FALLS A SECOND TIME:

I was har pressed and was falling, but the Lord helped me (Ps 118:3)

We do not have a priest who is unable to sympathize with our weakness, but One Who was tempted in every way that we are, yet never sinned. (Heb 4:15)

Come to me, all you who are weary and find life burdensome, and I will refresh You. (Mt 11:28)

Let us Pray:

God our Father, grant that we may walk in the footstepsof Jesus Who suffered for us and redeemed us not with gold and silver but with the price of His Own Blood. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

8. JESUS SPEAKS TO THE WOMEN:

Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, Weep for yourselves and for your children (Lk 23:28)

A man who does not live in Me is like a withered, rejected branch (Jn 15:6)

You will all come to the same end (as some Galileans who perished) unless you reform (Lk 13:3)

Let us Pray:

Heavenly Father, You desire to show mercy rather than anger toward all who hope in You. Grant that we may weep for our sins and merit the grace of Your glory. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. Amen.

9. JESUS FALLS A THIRD TIME:

I am like water poured out; all my bones are racked. My heart has becopme like wax. My throat is dried up like baked clay, my tongue cleaves to my jaws; to the dust of death you have brought me down. (Ps 22;15)

Put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the desires of the flesh. (Rom 13:14)

They have pierced My Hands and My Feet; I can count all My Bones (Ps 22:17)

Father, forgive them; they do not know what they are doing (Lk23:34)

It is not to do My own will that I have come down from heaven, but to do the Will of Him Who sent Me (Jn 6:38)

(Rom 6:10-11)
