The Revelation of Jesus Christ (Chapter 1)

Alright. Here we go--the first chapter of Revelation. Highly charged imagery, dense Jewish symbolism, intense cultural and religious pressure, and a rich history of literature collide, producing (in my opinion) the greatest spiritual vision in the Christian experience. If you can enter into this vision, you will see Christ.

maybe...

I am not a scholar, but I think what we must remember about time and God. He does not see it as we do. They waited for thousands of years for the Messiah. There was a period of 400 years in which there were no prophets of God, and His presence was not with them. He had left "the temple" as it were.
So when the Bible speaks about shortly coming to pass, it is a hope that we must cling to, no matter how many millenia it is, but could be tomorrow. We must always have this expectancy that it could be at any moment, and live our lives in a way that says that. To love, and to share the love of God, to know Him more, and to have His word written so deeply in us, it is all we know. To be more like Christ, to grow in His mercy and grace, must all shortly come to pass.
Psalms says we are but a vapor, a mist. Here today and gone tomorrow, so short is our life compared to eternity.
This is the mind I believe that John had as well.
I still believe many of the things have happened, but that Justin is correct in that they will be fulfilled again.
