i want to share with you of the joy and peace of having the assurance of salvation.
i want to recommend you to the study of the book of ephesians of ccel which i am enjoying and learning many great truths
eph 2:8 says "for by grace you have been saved through faith;and that not of yourselves ;it is the gift of God,not of works lest any man should boast"
some prefer another version which says "you are saved" to show a present and continuous position of being saved.
the word of God does show that salvation is for now and eternity ..once saved always saved..we are sealed by the Holy Spirit (eph 1:13) and no man can pluck us from out of Christ's or God's hand(jn 19:28 ,27)
salvation is of the Lord(jonah 2:9) it is entirely God's doing and NOT our doing(works) our good deeds,actions bring no merit towards salvation..nil,zilch,
but from the postion of being saved IN CHRIST we are created unto good works(eph 2:10) again it is God working in us in newness of life in taking our daily cross and following him as you put it.
as long as we live in this world we still sin but as you know sin shall not have dominion over us, Christ has already paid its penalty on the cross. we have not only been redeemed but we are also justified and adopted as sons.
we need daily sanctification by daily confession of sin to our Great High Priest our Lord and Saviour who sits on Gods right hand..keeping short accounts with a Holy and Righteous God
believers follow and obey the indwelling Spirit because they love Him and want to bring joy and glory to Him.we will be given a crown..we will be given a garment of righteousness.. but "the bride looks not at her garment but on her bridegrooms face" and the joy of casting our crowns at his pierced feet.
