Where is the Power of God?

critter's picture

Why is it that in most of today's churches, you dont see things such as spiritual gifts, or the Holy Ghost baptism that occured in the book of Acts in operation? Can i take a moment to state why i believe it is? Ok lol i will anyways, I believe its simply because man wants to hold on to tradition, now im not taking a shot at any particular denomination here so im just gonna put a little bit of what Jesus had to say about this up.

Mar 7:7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching [for] doctrines the commandments of men.
Mar 7:8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, [as] the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
Mar 7:9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
Mar 7:13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

Now with that being said, i would like to put up some scriptures that i believe are in support of baptism in the Holy Spirit, and Spiritual gifts. Let me also go ahead and state that i am fully aware that a person who has not been baptized in the Spirit still has the Holy Spirit. However, i dont believe they have the full power (Acts 1:8) also, im aware that there have been many people greatly used of God out of denominations that dont believe in this baptism and i want to say that i still appreciate their ministry.

Jhn 7:37 In the last day, that great [day] of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
Jhn 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
Jhn 7:39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet [given]; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Luk 24:49 "Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem[fn9] until you are endued with power from on high."

Act 1:4 And, being assembled together with [them], commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, [saith he], ye have heard of me.
Act 1:5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Act 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Act 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, [even] as many as the Lord our God shall call.

1Cr 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

Joe 2:28 And it shall come to pass afterward, [that] I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
Joe 2:29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.
Joe 2:30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.
Joe 2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.
Joe 2:32 And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.

Im going to put up the places where the baptism occured in scripture but you will have to read it on your own. Acts 2, Acts 8:12-17 Acts 10:44-46 Acts 11:14-16 Acts 15:7-9 Acts 19:1-6. Also just last night as i was studying some documents in the early church fathers to be honest i became quite perplexed because i couldnt find anything on the baptism of the Holy Spirit, well boy how wrong was I, i read chapter out of one of Theophilus' books and it talks all about it. At the moment i cant remember the name of the book, but the title of the chapter was "the meaning of the name of a Christian" i believe.

Now scriptures for Spiritual gifts...

1Cr 12:1 Now concerning spiritual [gifts], brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
1Cr 12:2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.
1Cr 12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and [that] no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
1Cr 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
1Cr 12:5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
1Cr 12:6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
1Cr 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
1Cr 12:8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
1Cr 12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
1Cr 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another [divers] kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

1Cr 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
1Cr 12:29 [Are] all apostles? [are] all prophets? [are] all teachers? [are] all workers of miracles?
1Cr 12:30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
1Cr 12:31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

Rom 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, [let us prophesy] according to the proportion of faith;
Rom 12:7 Or ministry, [let us wait] on [our] ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;
Rom 12:8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, [let him do it] with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

1Th 5:19 Quench not the Spirit.
1Th 5:20 Despise not prophesyings.
1Th 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

Mar 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
Mar 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Rom 15:19 Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

Also read Ephesians 4:8-12, 1 Peter 4:10 and 1 Corinthians 13-14. Well i tell you what if anybody wants to argue with these things friend, they aint arguing with me, they are arguing with the written word of God. An thats a foolish thing to argue with by the way. Oh and by the way, "heaven and earth shall pass away but my words shall never pass away."

100% Maria

Maria said,
No one loves us more than Jesus Christ.... I did not say anything to the contrary, did I?

Mike says,

Not at all Maria,
I just was filled with joy in thinking about God's power and wanted to testify my belief that Mary was indeed a Faith filled Virgin mother of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I was taught as a RC youngster that approaching Mary was "easier" than approaching Jesus because she was more compassionate than Jesus was/is.

Sometimes we non RC's are accused of disrespect for Mary.
and I wanted to testify of my respect!

Thanks and God bless you Maria!

it's measured by your nearness to God"
