Practical Mysticism - CHAPTER VI - LOVE AND WILL

l.craddock's picture
"Only the real, say the mystics, can know Reality, for “we behold that which we are,” the universe which we see is conditioned by the character of the mind that sees it: and this realness—since that which you seek is no mere glimpse of Eternal Life, but complete possession of it—must apply to every aspect of your being, the rich totality of character, all the “forces of the soul,” not to some thin and isolated “spiritual sense” alone."

Hi Les-

You are absolutely right in that it is not a love with the emotions of passion for another, but a genuine love for the person as they are.

The Japanese bow to the person, not because they are particularly special, but they bow to the Spirit that is within. They obviously realize that there is something greater within us. What a beautiful thought.

If we could acknowledge each person with that same level of of respect and awe, what a wonderful world we would be in. Mother Teresa knew this. She saw Christ in each face of the hungry, sick and poor.

We need to see this in all - I tried doing that once while walking in a park a few years back and it is an amazing little project. You immediately start to feel different about a stranger, when you watch them, knowing that Christ is within. You have a greater respect for that life - you cherish it more.

Well, getting off subject and sorry for that. Just wanted to respond. Happy reading to all.
