Here the practical man will naturally say: And pray how am I going to do this? How shall I detach myself from the artificial world to which I am accustomed? Where is the brake that shall stop the wheel of my image-making mind?

humble

How long does it take to become humble? I think it takes a lifetime of constant work to keep oneself humble. If only the mind would respond to the desires of the heart. I also think that it was not a waste of time in the Hindu/Buddist faith. I think we have something to learn from everyone and more than likely you learned how to quiet your soul. Now you are ready to listen to God. Most of us haven't had years spent in the quiet.
John Micheal Talbot has written a book called "Come to the quiet". He is a Catholic monk and talks about the Eastern faith and Western faith and how to use many of the Eastern methods in Christian worship. I found the book very helpful for me.
