Practical Mysticism - CHAPTER I - WHAT IS MYSTICISM?

Mysticism is the art of union with Reality. The mystic is a person who has attained that union in greater or less degree; or who aims at and believes in such attainment.

Don't be upset we started early...
Robert-
I believe it is a knowledge of God that occurs through the experience of union. This experience is something that is deep within us, which is beyond the senses and the imagination. It is something that is impossible to name and many just call it Love. God, out of necessity, remains a mystery even though we may experience this love union with Him. The higher degrees of this union does not depend on us but on the grace that God gives the person.
Sometimes, when one prays very deeply, there is such a huge feeling of love.. it has happened to me, on a very superficial level ofcourse, but was so overpowering that it brought me to tears but tears of joy, of feeling so inadequate to receive such love. It was a moment for me of tremendous grace. I have experienced this maybe 4-5 times.
I cannot even begin to imagine the joy that these people go though because they are in such a deeper level(or higher)than I can ever hope to attain.
I do not know if this is what you are thinking when you ask. I would love to learn how to truly contemplate but know that it does require much practice and silence and as you can see... so hard for me to do at times. :)
Blessings-
