Mysticism is the art of union with Ultimate Reality. The mystic is a person who has attained that union in greater or less degree; or who aims at and believes in such attainment.

We have just finished studying the Cloud of Unknowing, by an anonyumous early English author, probably a monk, and originally intended for monks, but now widely appreciated by mystics of various descriptions. Those who are just joining this group might consider reading through that book and this group's comments on it, either before or in addition to our present study. The threads to our discussion of this book, and the book we studied before it, Practical Mysticism, by Evelyn Underhill, are still available at this study group site, you can just scroll down to them.

We are presently studying the Little Flowers of St. Francis of Assisi, by Ugolino, and the Scale (or Ladder) of Perfection, by Walter Hilton.
After we have finished studying the Little Flowers we will follow it by studying the Dark Night of the Soul, by Saint John of the Cross, and when we have finished studying the Scale we will study the Fire of Love , by Richard Rolle of Hampole.
