"Love the sinner, hate the sin" - is this Christian?

Dear Brothers in Christ,

I heard that "Love the sinner hate the sin" mantra was initially uttered by Gandhi to expound on some principles of Indian non-Christian religious systems. I wonder whether it corresponds to the teaching of Jesus Christ?

there IS something loveable in EVERY human being

Human beings are made in the image of God. God cannot help but love Himself, because God is perfect. God may not love what things are not holy in an individual, but at the core every human being bears some image of God. It is the nature of being human. If God ceases to love an individual (which He doesn't) then that individual is not human.

"Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life." John 5.39-40
