Is it biblical to tithe?

I know that the you cannot necessarily apply the OT tithe to Christians. I also know that giving and the support of the clergy was and is an important part of the NT. But is there any basis for making this into a 'tithe' which Christians are required to give?

Good Post Ink Havoc :)
Hi Ink Havoc,
Yes, I understand what you mean.
And, as we see, there are a huge amount of flavors of belief on this subject.
I have personally known close to 2 dozen seminary trained ministries who came to the conclusion that teaching Spirit Led giving brought their ministry budgets into a completely new dimension.
Where a tithing congregation averaged less than 10% generally, when they transitioned to Spirit Led giving, the giving increased dramatically.
One ministry started with a congregation of around 60 people who could just nearly support their building costs. 5 years after transitioning to Spirit Led giving, their ministry was traveling globally with 6 airplanes.
He taught his congregation the story of Elisha and the widow woman.
Pour out what you have in faith and obedience to His Spirit and God will supernaturally replenish.
Hoarding money only leads to poverty.
For me, Spirit Led giving is a giant leap of faith beyond tithing. I no longer look to my calculator as my guide. The Holy Spirit is just too *** TOTALLY AWESOME ***.
However, the significant benefit *WAY* beyond the issue of money, is the personal relationship you build with God. He may even ask you to give money you don't have. And then you wait to see what awesome way He will bless you beyond your imagination!
I can't out-love God.
There's no going back to the type and shadows for me!!!
I'm convinced.
Spirit Led giving is the **TRUE** tithe.
"Give and it shall be given, pressed down and running over"
Those are the words of the most wonderful Shepherd we’ll ever know
The rich young ruler obeyed the scriptures, but he also walked away sad.
But you and I don't have to.
We have traded a religion for a relationship :)
In His Great Love!!
