Help! Question About A Possible Discrepancy in Genesis

Timothy-David's picture

Genesis 10:5, which is a post-flood passage says of the descendants of Shem, Ham, and Japheth, “From these the coastland peoples spread. These are the sons of Japheth in their lands, each with his own language, by their families, in their nations.” But Genesis 11:1 states, “And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.”

Could someone explain this apparent contradiction?

Many thanks,

- Timothy
