Can a Christian be demon possessed?

Actsnow's picture

I recently was involved in a deliverance with a close friend whom I serve and minister with. I would with a doubt say he was a Christian. Born again, bible believing christian. It was real possession, and true deliverance, thanks be to God.
The two scriptures I am studying is, 1) when Jesus tells Peter, "get behind me satan." and 2) Luke 22:3 when satan enters Judas?

No Theology About Demons

I would say that all Christians need to be very careful about how they view demons and Satan. 1 Tim. 4 is where I get my reasons. "Now the Spirit experessly says that in later times some will deprat from the faith by devoting themsevles to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared, who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be recieved with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth."
We live in a time when people will depart from the faith, and try to bring things like Buddhist practices to the Christian Church, or say that they believed, and give into false teachings. Jesus' never gave a formula for casting out demons. He was always able to cast them out because they recognized his authority over them. I'm not saying that demon possession doesn't happen, but we do need to be careful how we view it. There is no Biblical theology about demons or exorcism. We are also commanded not to go looking for demons or satan lest we be decieved ourselves, because Satan and his demons can take on the guise of an angel of light. However, Satan cannot be blamed for all the problems in our lives and demons cannot be the cause of all our problems. Adam gave into sin and that is why we are sinful. We are all that is needed to be mislead.
In answer to whether or not a Christian can be demon possessed. No. There is not room for God and the evil spirtist in our bodies. Our souls are not so big as to allow that. I would, however, view a Christian who says they are possessed as double-minded. James covers this in Chapter 1:6, "But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave in the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind, he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways."
This is in reference to asking for wisdom, but double-minded means having two souls. They have not made up there mind yet as to who they will serve and are as flimsy as an ocean wave in the wind. We are never exorted to cast out demons or satan, but to stay away from such and follow God's will in our life. We are to ask for wisdom from God who will give it to us freely if we believe he will give it. I don't doubt that people can be possessed, but it is not necessary to sin abhorently against God. Modern Christians must be wary of what is not supported Theologically or Biblically.
