Atherton's Lack of German

In regard to the electronic editor's worries about what this implies about the translation overall, Atherton goes on to state that his lack of German poses a problem with respect specifically to identifying Luther's citations from Scripture, which Luther evidently did in German, not Latin. There is no reason to use this comment as grounds for doubting the quality of the translation generally. More problematic in that regard may be Atherton's stated reliance on earlier translations--unless those assertions are merely meant to demonstrate his modesty.
